It's said that nothing in life comes free.
While visitors to the Saratoga Village are able to appreciate the hard work
that volunteers put in to keep the downtown beautiful and vibrant, money is
needed to make these things happen.
To ensure that monthly events on Big Basin Way continue and that the Village
Gardeners can still purchase soil and plants, the Saratoga Village
Development Council is hosting a fundraiser, "Savor Saratoga: Wine and
Wisteria II." The event will be held on April 11 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at
Hakone Gardens, 21000 Big Basin Way.
The event will be held rain or shine.
"If you can come, you will relax with some of our finest wines, eat food
from our wonderful restaurants and bid on some great items [while] enjoying
the smell of the glorious wisteria, the view and listening to the sounds of
the garden waterfall and classical guitar," Jill Hunter, president of the
SVDC, wrote in an e-mail.
"When the sun sets, Hakone is at its most beautiful," she added. "Typically,
visitors don't get to see this."
The sound of a jazz guitar, played by local musician Matt Toshima, will fill
the air during the fundraiser as five local wineries pour a variety of wines
for guests to savor.
Saratoga wineries and Village restaurants have donated wine and hors
d'oeuvres, while Village merchants and Saratoga residents have contributed
items for a silent auction.
Cooper-Garrod Vineyards, Cinnabar Vineyards and Winery, Kathryn Kennedy
Winery, Clos La Chance Wines and Savannah-Chanelle Vineyards have all
donated wine and each will have tasting booths set up.
Eighty-three items were auctioned off last year, and Hunter said that there
are plenty of new items that guests can bid on. Local restaurants have
donated gift certificates, the Skin Prophecy Boutique has its line of skin
care products up for bid and California Living, a furniture store off of Big
Basin Way, has donated a certificate for half off any sale item.
There will be many more items up for bid donated by Village merchants,
Hunter said.
"Everybody in the Village is supporting us," she said.
Tickets cost $35 and are available for purchase at M.E. Benson's Estate
Sales, The Butter Paddle, Deja and Co., Michael Anthony Salon and Skin
Prophecy Boutique. All are located on Big Basin Way.
