No group of people has ever worked harder under such dire conditions as the volunteers who worked at Wine & Wisteria yesterday! The weather couldn't have been worse; rain pelted down on those setting up the tables, bringing up the food and silent auction items. Raincoats were saturated and men were down on their hands and knees wiping the water from the beautiful hardwood floors at Hakone.

With that introduction let me say that the day was smashing! Of course fewer than usual came out in such weather but those that did were brave souls and comeraderie filled the two buildings. Pam and Bob Dunnett and Reiko Iwanaga from At Your Request event planning (long-time Saratoga residents) lent their expertise and made the event go smoothly. Paula Cappello did a magnificent job handling the silent auction's 84 items. Loren Cook directed the food with great pizzaz, Paul Hernandez the wine and his wife Donna did beautiful signs for each restaurant who participated along with the silent auction papers and booklet. Brian Berg orchestrated the tickets and technology.

Jenni Taylor, Annette Stransky, MaryKay Breitenbach, Andrea Lee, Mario Sikorsky, Judy Coulter, Mary Ann Jafri, Ron Pisani, Mark Frassinelli, Ray Cosyn, the whole Hernandez family and Iwanaga family, and so many more, worked so very hard for this event.

The restaurants, particularly The Basin, Mint Leaf, Rose Market, Vienna Woods, Da Mario were so very generous with their donations of food. The stores, too, donated so many items. Please support them when you can in the future. Of course to Lon Saavedra and Hakone Gardens a big thank you. Saratogans please realize how lucky we are to have such a wonderful place in our midst!

So thank you so much to everyone. Saratoga's spirit of community was at its best last evening. With rotten weather, the Masters, everything that was happening yesterday, you came out and supported your beautiful Village and the efforts to beautify it even more. Jill
