14th Annual Saratoga Chamber of Commerce Crab Fest
 
If you’re feeling crabby, this Chamber fest is the place to be.
 
Save February 20 for a fun night of crab, entertainment, a live auction and community spirit.
 
That’s right, the whole family will enjoy all-you-can-eat cold-cracked Dungeness crab, plus hot pasta, salad, French bread, coffee and soft drinks, ice cream sundaes, and cake. Beer and Cinnabar wine and will be available for purchase. No one will go home hungry or thirsty from this fest!
 
After you’ve eaten all you can eat, music from a DJ and a live auction emceed by former Mayor Chuck Page will fill the night with excitement, fun and great deals.
 
The Details
Date:    Saturday, February 20, 2010
Time:    6:30 – 8:30pm
Place:   Sacred Heart Church, Geary Hall, 13716 Saratoga Ave., Saratoga
Cost:    $40 for adults, $20 children under 11.
Important note – Tickets are sold in advance only (for accurate crab ordering). After February 5, adult tickets are $50 and children’s tickets are $25.

“Color Splash!”: Silk Paintings and Original Jewelry Designs

at Gallery Saratoga

 

Saratoga, Calif. –– January 15, 2010 –– The glowing colors of painted silk are paired with the brilliance of crystals, Venetian glass, and gemstones in a two-woman exhibit dubbed “Color Splash!” during the romantic month of February at Gallery Saratoga. “Color Splash!” features the silk paintings of Carolina Mueller and the original jewelry designs of Elfi Altendorfer. The show opens February 2 and runs through February 28

 

A reception for the artists will be held Saturday, February 13, from 1 - 5 pm at the gallery. (Take note: this is the day before Valentine’s Day!) The public is invited, and there will be complementary refreshments.
 

Gallery Saratoga is located at 14435A Big Basin Way, Saratoga, CA. The gallery is open Tuesday through Sunday, from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. Gallery Saratoga features fine art by local artists in watercolor, oils, acrylics, pastels, pen and ink, photography, silk painting, turned wood, ceramics, jewelry, gourds, metal sculpture and more. Start the new year off with these two lectures; one on Montalvo and the second on John Steinbeck!!

The Saratoga Historical Foundation is presenting "Montalvo Then and Now" with a multimedia presentation by Jane Goldbach a Montalvo volunteer and member of the Montalvo Service Group on Monday, January 18. The program will begin 7:00 PM. Those participating in the potluck dinner should arrive at 6:30 PM and bring food to share, your own dishes and eating utensils. Beverages of water, tea or coffee will be provided. TheImmanuel Lutheran Church is located at 14103 Saratoga Avenue in Saratoga. For reservations or additional information, call Nancy Anderson at 408-867-4383. The event is free and open to the public.

"Steinbeck's Wrath, 1936-1939: The Santa Clara Valley Years" by noted author and Steinbeck authority Susan Shillinglaw will be given onFebruary 5 from 7-9 PM. The event will be held at the Foothill Club (20399 Park Place in Saratoga and is a fundraiser for the Saratoga HistoryMuseum. Museum members will be charged $15 and nonmembers, $20. To purchase a ticket, call (408)255-1883—during the day. Coffee and dessert will be served.

Villa Montalvo (just down the road on Saratoga-Los Gatos!) was built in 1912 by then Senator Phelan. Tonight’s lecture will include home movies made by Phelan of the many celebrities who once visited as well as cover the history of Montalvo.

They lived in a small house in Los Gatos where Steinbeck completed Of Mice and Men, and where he researched and wrote The Grapes of Wrath.
